The Holy Gospel according to Luke
The Gospel of Luke presents the Gospel message as a universal offer of salvation that is especially focused on the poor, the marginalized, and the outcast. It begins with the beautiful and familiar stories of the announcement of the birth of Jesus and the visit of the shepherds. We see the Lord as a compassionate physician who reaches out to the lost with a love that knows no boundaries or prejudices. This Gospel emphasizes the role of the Holy Spirit and the importance of prayer in the life and ministry of the Savior.
The narrative contains unique and powerful parables like the Good Samaritan and the Prodigal Son that reveal the mercy of the Father in all its depth. We witness the inclusion of women and foreigners in the mission of Jesus and the call to a life of radical generosity and social concern. The book concludes with the appearance of the risen Lord on the road to Emmaus where He is recognized in the breaking of the bread. Luke encourages us to see ourselves as witnesses to the joy of the Gospel and the power of Divine Mercy to transform every human heart.
