The Book of the Prophet Ezekiel
The Book of Ezekiel is filled with dramatic visions and symbolic actions that illustrate the holiness of God and the promise of renewal for His people. Ezekiel served among the exiles in Babylon and spoke of the glory of the Lord departing from the Temple due to the sins of Israel. We see the famous vision of the valley of dry bones that represents the miraculous restoration of the nation through the power of the Spirit. This narrative teaches us that no situation is beyond the reach of divine grace.
Ezekiel emphasizes the individual responsibility of every person for their own spiritual state and their need for a new heart and a new spirit. We are introduced to the image of the Good Shepherd who will search for His lost sheep and lead them to green pastures. The final chapters describe a magnificent new Temple and a river of life that flows from its sanctuary to heal the earth. Ezekiel invites us to look forward to the perfect restoration that will be accomplished in the New Jerusalem.
