The Book of the Prophet Micah
The Book of Micah features a contemporary of Isaiah who speaks both to the leaders of the nation and to the common people about the requirements of a holy life. He provides the famous summary of the Law which is to act justly, to love tenderly, and to walk humbly with your God. We see a powerful critique of the corruption of the wealthy and a promise that the Lord will one day gather His scattered flock. This book emphasizes that true religion is found in a heart that is dedicated to the well being of others.
The prophet also provides a significant messianic prophecy about the town of Bethlehem being the birthplace of a future ruler whose origins are from of old. We see a vision of a future where all nations will stream to the mountain of the Lord to learn His ways and walk in His paths. This message of hope remains a central part of our Advent expectations each year. The Book of Micah encourages us to live with an eye toward the peace and justice that will one day characterize the entire world.
